Takaraya
A moment to unwind in the city.
Located in Senju 4-chome, Adachi Ward, Takaraya serves warm mitarashi dango grilled to order, fragrant mugwort dango, and fresh mochi, making it an inviting stop for an everyday treat while strolling the neighborhood.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Grilled individually upon order and handed over warm, the mitarashi dango is the natural starting point at Takaraya. The soft, chewy skewered rice dumplings are thoroughly coated in a sweet-savory glaze, offering the gentle melt and texture unique to freshly made mochi. Grabbing a skewer while wandering through Senju's former post-town streets and savoring it on the spot while it still steams is an essential local pleasure.
The counter features an array of sweets that showcase the character of glutinous rice dough, including herb-rich kusa dango and kusa mochi, alongside daifuku filled with subtly sweet coarse red bean paste. Depending on the season, the lineup expands to include naturally sweet imo yokan (sweet potato jelly), ohagi, freshly pounded kiri-mochi and noshi-mochi, and awa-mochi (millet mochi), reflecting the breadth of a classic neighborhood confectionery shop.
Seating is available inside for guests waiting for their orders, and payments can be made via PayPay and various credit cards. From casual snacks picked out on a whim to boxed gift sets for visits, the shop maintains an approachable presence rooted in everyday life.
